On the shipping of azolla

with 37 comments

Due to increasing requests for azolla i decided to try shipping them via LBC, my cargo hauler for the past few years that i deliver forage cuttings. I put them inside a food canister but for safety the staff asked me to put them inside a styrofore.
The destination will be to the island province of Catanduanes. I will take care of the proper packing next week. It was a Sunday when I went to Naga City and I don’t have enough time to look for a styrofore.
If this goes well i will accomodate other requests within the country. From the reader’s comments i get demands from as far as Malaysia. Azolla is a water fern and I really don’t think it can stand the stress of hauling for more than a couple of days.

Seminar on oyster mushroom culture

leave a comment »

Last week I got a text message about a 2-day stay-in training on oyster mushroom culture, this coming Oct 1-2, 2011. It will be held at CLC Retreat Center, Sta Cruz, San Fernando, Camarines Sur.

Last summer Ben took home 600 plantlets of lakatan banana, so we are anticipating a lot of waste banana trunks in the near future, after fruit harvest. Not that they be will a waste at all, as I can ferment them and feed to pigs. But he said mushroom culture is another thing that can be done when we have lots of bananas.

So this text message is timely. I replied confirmation of attendance and at the same time inquired who will be the speaker, but mobile calls were not answered. After a day I had a text reply confirming my attendance, but no info about the speaker. They will be charging P300 per day to cover training costs.

The venue will be on a nearby town, so I’m gonna check it out this Saturday.  The contact person is Chi 0908.3669947, in case you’re interested. I came to have her number bec she was referred to me when i was looking for African nightcrawlers.

Training on Natural Farming Technology System

with 6 comments

I had been to this kind of training in late 2010 and this is good. The trainer, Andry Lim trained under Dr. Cho, who started natural farming in Jeju Island, South Korea.

The natural farming concoctions are prepared by the participants during the training so there leaves little doubt that all methods are done right, even how to mix your own organic fertilizer and feeds. The interaction between participants, who usually came from all over the country makes for a lively exchange of insights and inspires a young apprentice in farming that he will succeed in whatever enterprise he wants, be it in veggie or livestock farming.

This will be done on October 17-22, 2011 at Tribal Mission Foundation Training Center in Tugbok, Los Amigos, Davao City.  For inquiries you may call or text Jojie at 0917.6261955.
